Aarau overtake Luzern, Lehmann scores for Leicester for the first time

MATCH OF THE WEEK. Leaders Servette Chênois had only conceded four goals in 16 league games - half of which were scored by Grasshoppers, who narrowly lost the first leg 3-2 after conceding a goal in stoppage time. Anyone who thought last year's play-off finalists would be able to stand up to the leaders in Geneva was wrong. The final score was 3:0 in front of 2554 spectators at the Stade de Genève, with the French-speaking Swiss team impressively demonstrating their ambitions to win the championship.

GOAL OF THE ROUND. A textbook free kick put Servette on the road to victory against GC. Cristina Libran curled the ball over the wall from just outside the penalty area, leaving the visitors' goalkeeper Lauren Kozal with no chance of defending. It was the first goal in the fourth championship match for the 20-year-old Spaniard, who moved to Geneva from Juventus Turin in the winter.

RANKING SITUATION. Servette have been the winners of the qualifiers for some time now. Behind them, there was a tie in the 17th round. The YB women lost 3-0 to FCB in front of their home crowd and had to let their opponents close the gap to one point. Grasshoppers are four points behind the champions from Bern, but still have a catch-up game against St. Gallen up their sleeve. Aarau celebrated an eminently important 2-0 win in the basement duel against bottom club Thun and overtook Lucerne, who would now have to join the Bernese Oberland side in the relegation round.

AND SO IT CONTINUES. Championship action pauses before the final round of qualifying. Only the catch-up match between St. Gallen and Grasshoppers is on the program on Saturday. Sunday will be dominated by the Cup final, which the YB women and Servette Chênois will play on the Schützenwiese in Winterthur.

Swiss women in foreign leagues

ENGLAND. Alisha Lehmann was successful for the first time for her new club Leicester City. The 27-year-old put her team ahead against Aston Villa in the 38th minute. In the end, Lehmann's debut goal brought the bottom club nothing. The visitors from Birmingham, for whom Noelle Maritz played through as usual, turned the game around and inflicted Leicester's sixth defeat in a row. With five matchdays remaining, the East Midlands club are three points adrift of 11th place.

SPAIN. Sydney Schertenleib scored in stoppage time of the first half to make it 4-0 in the 7-1 win of undisputed leaders FC Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao. It was the 19-year-old's fifth goal in the current championship.

The number of the week

11,404 spectators watched the five matches of the 17th round of the Women's Super League, all of which were played in the big stadiums. The Wankdorf attracted the most spectators, with 3579 watching YB's 3-0 defeat of FCB. Only 185 spectators watched the goalless game between Rapperswil-Jona and FCZ in the Grünfeld stadium.
