Under the motto "Psychogeography", the 13th edition of Eventi Letterari on Monte Verità celebrates the 150th birthday of psychoanalyst C.G. Jung. The literary festival explores the connection between landscape, soul and architecture.
According to a press release, physical spaces and social dynamics will be combined in the upcoming edition of Eventi Letterari. This is the third time that Stefan Zweifel has curated the small, exquisite literature festival in Sopraceneri. Among others, he has invited the Catalan writer Irene Solà, winner of the EU Prize for Literature 2024, the Rwandan author Scholastique Mukasonga and the winner of the Swiss Grand Prix Literature 2025 Fleur Jaeggy to Monte Verità.
Under the title "Literature, Art and Psychogeography", they will discuss how the environment and architecture influence our experience. As early as 1778, Jean-Jacques Rousseau saw Switzerland as a unique place where "wild nature and civilization merge", the organizers wrote in a press release on Wednesday. Swiss architect Peter Zumthor and Hungarian philosopher László F. Földényi will explore the question of whether the country is still a vibrant meeting place today.
Reading in honor of Fleur Jaeggy
In addition, journalist Barbara Villiger Heilig will present a reading in honor of Fleur Jaeggy, which will be accompanied by a concert in cooperation with the Tonhalle Zurich. Jaeggy is the winner of the Swiss Grand Prix Literature 2025 and once investigated the connection between Monte Verità and its history.
The festival is also paying a special tribute to the Italian publishing house Adelphi, which is receiving this year's Enrico Filippini Prize. Adelphi once made Hermann Hesse and Friedrich Dürrenmatt famous in Italy and promoted literary dialog between Switzerland and Italy, as the organizers write.
The festival will open on April 10 with Erik Davis in Locarno. According to the press release, the American author, whose 1998 work "Techgnosis" deals with the relationship between humans and digital technologies, combines mysticism and consciousness.
In keeping with the spiritual father of this year's edition, the Eranos Foundation - a historical center of Jungian studies - will also be opening its doors in an idyllic setting on Lake Maggiore.
The 13th Eventi Letterari will take place from April 10 to 13, 2025 on Monte Verità above Ascona.
