Djamila Rowe, once a celebrated jungle queen, still experiences recognition from strangers on the street. "People wave at me from cars and honk their horns," she once said. Despite the financial gain from the show, she remained modest and continued to shop at discount stores. This caution could now pay off, as the past year was rather lean for the 57-year-old, as she revealed in an interview with RTL. "Winning in the jungle doesn't mean you're set for life. You have to keep working hard and stay present."

A year of setbacks

Djamila Rowe speaks openly about the challenges she had to overcome this year. "I had to take a lot of low blows," she admits. Several project rejections in a row made her doubt her career. "Four rejections in a row! It makes you wonder whether you should change industries." Nevertheless, she remains optimistic and hopes for a better year in 2025. Despite her doubts about her own reality qualities, she advises others to look for a secure job. "What I do is not secure. Old-age poverty is an issue, everything is getting more expensive and competition is growing."

Prospects for the future

Djamila Rowe sees the growing number of reality actors as a challenge. "There are more and more of us," she sighs. She recommends working behind the camera if in the entertainment sector. The uncertainties in her industry and the rising cost of living are a constant concern for her. Despite everything, she remains determined to carry on and hopes for better times.
