The Baloise Session opens on Friday with a double concert featuring Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald and Swiss ESC participant Zoë Më. The Basel music festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Macdonald has already performed several times at the Baloise Session. Zoë Më from Fribourg has biographical roots in the city, where she will be performing again following her participation in the ESC.

The synth-pop band Duran Duran, which has been around since 1978, will be performing twice at the Baloise Session. Next Thursday, the Brits will perform with JC Stewart as the opening act, and on Friday with Swiss singer Paula Dalla Corte.

Another highlight from pop/rock history is the performance by US rockers Queens of the Stone Age on Tuesday. The band has rehearsed several new songs and will present them in Basel as part of a limited concert series, as festival CEO Beatrice Stirnimann announced to the media. At the request of the Americans, the Basel band Moonpool will play as the opening act.

Farewell concert by Pegasus

The Swiss band Pegasus will also be giving a farewell concert at the Baloise Session before their planned departure. They will be teaming up with the second act of the evening, American soul singer Aloe Blacc. They had specially written a song together that they would present in Basel, it was said.

Parov Stelar, "King of Electro-Swing", will also be performing at the festival together with Jazzhouse musician Berlioz. Blues rock from the two sisters of Larkin Poe will close the evening with Irishman Dermot Kennedy.

The Baloise Session takes place in the Event Hall at Messe Basel until November 6.
