The State Chancellery of the Canton of Solothurn announced on Friday that serious and comprehensible bids up to an amount of 357,000 Swiss francs had been received during the course of Thursday. In the course of the evening, the maximum amount climbed to over one million francs.
However, due to the unusually large price jumps, the suspicion of dubious bids arose, it added. Contacting the highest bidders on Friday confirmed this suspicion.
The auction will be restarted at a later, as yet undefined date, the State Chancellery wrote. In this context, the Motor Vehicle Inspectorate (MFK) is examining adjustments to the registration procedure. The bidders of the withdrawn auction were informed personally. The MFK is also examining criminal measures against the abusive bidders.
