Mentioning the tragedy in Crans-Montana, Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider opened the 61st Solothurn Film Festival on Wednesday evening. In a year that began with a day of mourning on such a scale, she said, she was all the more grateful to be here.

"Film festivals are places of surprise." You never know what you are going to see, Baume-Schneider continued, referring to the opening film "The Narrative" by Bernard Weber and Martin Schilt.

The documentary, which has been nominated for this year's Prix de Soleure, tells the story of the Ghanaian investment banker and former employee of the major Swiss bank UBS, who as a young trader took responsibility for the loss of 2.3 billion dollars.
