The Bernese painter, poet, storyteller, musician, cabaret artist and theater maker Timmermahn died on Saturday night at the age of 83. Timmermahn's management Kathamusic GmbH confirmed a corresponding report in the Bernese Tamedia newspapers on Saturday.

In connection with an exhibition in Burgdorf in 2011, Timmermahn was described as a "tireless explorer of the absurdity of everyday life". He was known in Bern and beyond as a storyteller of eccentric fairy tales, for example, but also as a painter and designer of posters such as the one for the Bern Carnival in 2004.

Currently on show in Wabern near Bern is Timmermahn's farce "Jenseits", which is described as "absurdist folk theater". Timmermahn himself wrote on his homepage that he loves absurd, surreal, far-fetched, fantastic, grotesque, exaggerated, strange and peculiar plays. "I don't need to be understood."

For a long time, Timmermahn performed in a formation called "Timmermahn & Los Hobos". The multi-talented artist also caused a stir in 2023 with a huge painting on a 45-metre-high feed silo in Rothenburg LU.
