The program is as diverse as the participating institutions: Galerie Mueller is kicking off the series of events celebrating the 100th birthday of the machine artist with a Tinguely exhibition. Kunsthalle Basel, on the other hand, is hosting the vernissage of an exhibition with the ghostly figures of Norwegian artist Sandra Mujinga, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo; she deals with questions of corporeality in a variety of ways.
The Hauser & Wirth Gallery also aims in this direction, showing works on corporeality by such well-known artists as Louise Bourgeois and Meret Oppenheim. The artist duo Jahic/Roethlisberger is giving its exhibition space to the current Manor Art Prize winner Cassidy Toner as a playground for her absurdly funny art interventions.
11 museums, 21 galleries, 24 off-spaces
The 11 participating museums, 21 galleries, 24 off-spaces and the many art studios offer a total of 160 program items. Among many other live acts, a concert by the Zurich disco-punk band Waldorf will take place on Sunday in the Fondation Beyeler. The theater festival taking place at the same time will present an interactive sound performance by Bulgarian artist Ivo Dimchev at the Kunstmuseum Basel.
In 2020, the Art Days were originally intended as a one-off replacement for the Art Basel art fair, which was canceled during the pandemic. According to the initiators around gallery owner Carlo Knöll, it has now become clear that this family reunion of Basel's rich and equally rich art scene generally meets a great need. The Art Days will take place for the fifth time in 2024.
