The new Montreux playhouse A heart that beats from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day

3.7.2024

It is set to become the heart of this year's Montreux Jazz Festival. Some call it the "Lake House", where you can get to know music in many different ways.

Festival director Mathieu Jaton says: "Sometimes you have to dare to do something crazy."

In concrete terms, this means that the Montreux Jazz Festival has reacted to the current flood of concerts and is focusing more on the concert series in the legendary Auditorium Stravinski for the current edition.

Montreux wants to return to what once characterized the festival: exclusive concerts, world stars in an intimate atmosphere and discoveries.

This idea has also given rise to the "Lake House", which is set to become the new heart of the music festival on Lake Geneva. A heart that beats from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day.

Cinema, library, gallery and club

The "Lake House" is divided into eight themed rooms on three floors. There is a cinema where, for example, Wim Wenders' "Himmel über Berlin" is shown with music by Nick Cave.

There is a library where music authors present their books. There is a gallery with art from the festival. And everywhere: "Small is beautiful." The library is designed for 20 people, the cinema for 40.

But nightlife is not to be neglected in the "Lake House" either. The large bar in the middle of the Spielhaus has already become a place where people can meet after the concerts to talk and laugh until the early hours of the morning.
