  • Coldplay are in big trouble with their former manager Dave Holmes.
  • Holmes is suing the band around singer Chris Martin for the equivalent of 11 million francs.
  • Coldplay has responded with a counterclaim and is demanding 15.5 million francs from Holmes.

The British pop band Coldplay and their ex-manager Dave Holmes are involved in a legal dispute.

On the one hand, it is about outstanding commissions, and on the other about the band's exaggerated touring costs.

A court must now decide who has which financial obligations, according to the British newspaper "The Guardian".

Coldplay to pay ex-manager 11 million francs

Dave Holmes worked as manager for Coldplay from 2005 to 2022. In August 2023, he filed a lawsuit against the band in England. He is demanding compensation of 10 million pounds (around 11 million francs).

In his opinion, this amount results from outstanding commissions to which he is entitled.

The band's former manager also claims that this sum is connected to work on two previously unreleased albums, which he allegedly worked on together with the band.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin responds with countersuit

In a new counterclaim, the band led by frontman Chris Martin has now rejected Holmes' claims.

According to the Guardian, Coldplay are demanding damages of 14 million pounds (around 15.5 million Swiss francs). In the counterclaim, Coldplay claim that their ex-manager disproportionately inflated the tour costs.

Holmes is also alleged to have used his relationship with the band members to gain access to credit.

Dave Holmes: "Accusations are fictitious"

When asked about the counterclaim, a spokesman for Dave Holmes described the allegations as "fictitious", as he told the Times.
