  • Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden has died.
  • His family confirmed his death at the age of 72. The musician passed away peacefully at home.
  • Marsden was one of the founders of the hard rock band and an enthusiastic guitar collector.

The former guitarist of the band Whitesnake died on August 24. Bernie Marsden was 72 years old. His family wrote on Instagram: "He passed away peacefully on Thursday evening with his wife Fran and daughters Charlotte and Olivia by his side." Marsden never lost his passion for music until the end, nor for writing and recording new songs.

Born in the UK, he joined various rock groups in the 1970s. Together with Deep Purple singer David Coverdale (71) and guitarist Micky Moody (72), he founded the hard rock band Whitesnake in 1978.

His guitar could be heard on the first five albums and he co-wrote many of the band's biggest hits: "Fool for Your Loving", "She's a Woman" and the international hit "Here I Go Again" from the album "Saints & Sinners". However, he also left the band during the recording of that album.

"Funny and talented man"

After leaving Whitesnake, Marsden took part in projects with various musicians and also released several solo albums. He was particularly well known for his extensive guitar collection - many colleagues envied him for it, it is said.

David Coverdale, the singer of Whitesnake to this day, remembered his band colleague on Friday: "I have just woken up to the terrible news that my old friend and former snake Bernie Marsden has died". Marsden was a "funny and talented man". And it was an honor to be on stage with him.
