Walking the red carpet without make-up - that's no problem for US singer Alicia Keys. And the 42-year-old has a special - and very beautiful - attitude to getting older.

The US singer Alicia Keys is happy about getting older.

"I love getting smarter," the 42-year-old explains to "The Cut" magazine . "I love being more aware. I love being aware of what I'm thinking."

She now also seeks less validation from others, Keys said in the interview.

Alicia Keys: "You get more beautiful as you get older"

"I think you also become more beautiful as you get older," explains the singer, who made headlines a few years ago when she apparently walked red carpets completely without make-up.

As people get older, their hearts open up more, says the singer.

"You have a way about you that is so much stronger in some ways. I really know that you become more beautiful when you recognize these things about yourself, when you become wiser, when you get older, when you become more yourself, who you actually are."

Alicia Keys was born in New York's working-class Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. She signed a record deal as a teenager. Her debut album "Songs In A Minor" went straight to number one in the US charts 22 years ago, earning her five Grammys and the worldwide hit "Fallin".
