The Paléo open-air festival opens its doors for its 48th edition on Tuesday. Around 250,000 festival-goers are expected to attend the more than 200 concerts and performances in Nyon VD.

Rock legends such as Queens of the Stone Age and the Sex Pistols will be performing during the six-day music spectacle. Frank Carter has replaced Johnny Rotten as the singer of the latter band since their comeback. Carter was not yet born when the band's only studio album, "Never Mind The Bollocks", was released in 1977.

Also on the bill are heavyweights of American rap, namely Macklemore and Will Smith, both of whom were already on the line-up at the Gurtenfestival. French-language rap will be provided by Ninho & Niska and SDM. Pop icons Clara Luciani and Zaho de Sagazan as well as representatives of electronic music, such as David Guetta and Justice, are also on the program.

The Paléo should not be seen as "a series of concerts, but as a real experience", said festival founder and president Daniel Rossellat to the media on Monday. The eight stages, 130 food stalls and the art installations built by students from the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland would ensure this.

A drone show will once again be part of the 48th edition. Last year, this replaced the fireworks display on Sunday evening. After a "half success" in 2024 because the show was not visible from everywhere, it has now been improved, promised Rossellat. The drones will fly at a height of 450 meters. Last year it was 300 meters.

The weather situation is still unclear. The forecasts have been changeable so far. "You should pack sun cream and a tippet," advised Rossellat.
