Today, Pink is a globally successful pop singer.
But the 44-year-old once went through dark days. Her tough childhood in particular left its mark on her.
Pink, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, almost died of a drug overdose in 1995.
The 44-year-old pop singer confessed on the TV show "60 Minutes" that it was Thanksgiving - just a few weeks before she signed her first record deal.
"I was at a rave and I overdosed," Pink says. "I was on ecstasy, angel dust, crystal, all sorts of things. Then I was gone. Done. Too much."
The situation escalated in her teens
As a child, Pink had a difficult relationship with her parents, who raised her very strictly. The situation escalated when she was a teenager. She began to use drugs.
According to her own statement, Pink did not have to be hospitalized after the overdose. However, the unpleasant end to the party was the wake-up call she needed.
As a result, she fundamentally changed her everyday life.
Pink: "I was a punk. I had a big mouth"
In her younger years, the singer repeatedly battled against drug use. The multiple Grammy winner went off the rails back then. "I was a punk. I had a big mouth," says Pink.
But the near-death experience changed everything. "Hard drugs" have been taboo for her ever since. And so it was that the singer signed her first record deal with her R&B girl group Choice. The contract opened the door to her later global career.
Pink has spoken about her childhood several times in the past. "Basically, I grew up in a house where my parents yelled at each other every day and threw things. They hated each other," says the singer.
Pink deals with many of her experiences in songs such as "Family Portrait", "Just Like A Pill" and "Don't Let Me Get Me".
In these songs, she addresses the toxic behavior of her parents at home, her experience with drugs and the pressure of the music industry to look perfect.
