In September 2022, pop singer Melanie Müller is alleged to have shown the Hitler salute at a concert.
She denies the allegations.
Now the Leipzig public prosecutor's office has filed a lawsuit anyway. Müller has also been repeatedly associated with right-wing extremists in the past.
At an event in Leipzig in September 2022, singer Melanie Müller is alleged to have shown the Hitler salute from the stage. She even raised her arm towards the audience several times. The Leipzig public prosecutor's office has now brought charges against the 34-year-old for using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations.
The Leipzig district court will now decide whether the charges will be admitted and a main trial opened. The musician vehemently denies the accusations and rejects any connection to right-wing extremists. She defended herself, saying that the gesture had merely served to incite the audience.
Connections to right-wing extremists?
She had - as she often did at her performances - shouted "the chant 'Zicke-zacke, Zicke-zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi' to get the mood going". As she did so, she rhythmically pulled her arm upwards, according to Müller after the allegations came to light.
Last year, the police had already searched Müller's apartment during the investigation. This is not the first time that the singer has been associated with the far-right milieu. However, Melanie Müller has repeatedly distanced herself from this.
