The anniversary edition of the Gurten Festival is history. But what makes the Gurten so fascinating? We asked visitors to Bern's local mountain.

No time? blue News summarizes for you

  • The Gurten Festival is taking place for the 40th time on Bern's local mountain from July 12 to 16.
  • The festival came to an end on Sunday with a performance by Die Toten Hosen.
  • We asked Gurten visitors what makes the festival so fascinating for them.

40 times Gurtenfestival. That also means 40 unforgettable concerts, parties and flirtations.

We took the anniversary as an opportunity to get to the bottom of the fascination of Gurten.

What makes the festival special for visitors? What do they find the most beautiful, the best, the greatest? What is simply part of the Gurten? The result is 40 good reasons.

Sound, beer, food - and running down the hill

Many of the answers sound the same. Good food, good beer, good coffee and, of course, good sound - a successful Gurten Festival obviously appeals to the stomach and the senses in equal measure.

But the beautiful natural surroundings also make the Gurten unmistakable. And last but not least - the great view from the local mountain.

From which the fans then have to come down again at some point. For some, this is the real USP of the festival: "Walking down and coming down slowly - you can only do that on the Gurten!"
