The US rock band Foo Fighters have appointed a successor following the death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
American drummer Josh Freese (50) will take Hawkins' place on drums, the band led by frontman David Grohl (54) announced at a livestream event on Sunday (local time).
Freese has previously played with artists and bands such as The Vandals, Devo, Danny Elfman, Nine Inch Nails, Sting and Offspring. Freese is also known in US music circles as one of the most reliable session musicians.
New album, new tour
The band has also announced a new album, "But Here We Are", for June 2. It is the first work since the death of Hawkins, who was found dead in a hotel room in Colombia's capital Bogotá while on tour in March last year.
From next week, the Foo Fighters will go on tour with Freese. In June, they are expected to be one of the headliners at "Rock im Park" in Nuremberg and at the twin festival "Rock am Ring" at the Nürburgring in the Eifel region. However, no concerts are currently planned in Switzerland.
At two memorial concerts last September, Hawkins' place was taken by various musicians, including Freese, Travis Barker from Blink-182, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Hawkins' son Shane.
