Dialect rocker explains new album Trauffer: "'Giseltraud' is my secret weapon"

3.7.2024

Swiss dialect musician Trauffer is releasing his new album "Glöggelä" today. blue News explains what's behind the songs on the record.

After touring with Gölä as Büetzer Buebe in recent years, Trauffer is now looking forward to releasing his own album again.

"It feels great to get something going on my own again after the success," he tells blue News. And adds with a laugh: "And above all to do interviews without anyone nagging from the side."

His new album sounds "down-to-earth, genuine and rustic". The artist explains to blue News what the individual songs are all about:

"Giseltraud

"It's my favorite song on my new record. 100 percent Trauffer, to make you laugh. Giseltraud is my secret weapon."

"Allegra"

"A typical opening song. A 'Herzlich Willkommen' and a 'Welcome back' to all the people out there. Especially to those who buy the record and go to concerts again."

Glöggelä

"This song is a tribute to all the little animals in the world." Please what? "Yes, have you ever noticed when you go to an animal with a little bell, whether it's a dog, kitten, calf or donkey - you always get a lot of attention."

"Buurebüebli"

This song only made it onto the record at the end. The song is super entertaining. Frank made it. And who is Frank? "Frank has been my producer for many years. An incredibly urban Aarau man." Frank grew up on a farm and only told him this much later. Trauffer believes: "Frank has processed his childhood in this song."

"Chugelrund"

"When I was singing it, I thought it was a song I could do with the Rymann siblings." Trauffer then simply called Peter Rymann. "They agreed straight away and came to the studio." The result was a "mega cool piece of folk music".

"Fondue by the lake"

"That's the only pandemic-infected song. During this time, I always imagined my band and I finally getting together again and us making a fire somewhere and people coming from all sides and talking about how it used to be or how it was before." It is a beautiful song.

"Gondeli"

"It's a real fun number!" The song is rock'n'roll, danceable and lots of fun. "Exactly what we want to experience at concerts."

"Wood in front of the hut"

In a nutshell: "Anyone who has been to an après-ski party with even half a foot will love this song."

"Avalanche"

"This is real old dialect rock that I grew up with." The saxophone solo knocks Trauffer's socks off every time.

"Mir houe ufe Putz"

This song was only completed in the chalet in La Tzoumaz. "The interlude between pop music and folk music is simply fun."

"MuhYork"

"You always think that somewhere else is always much better than where you are. It's New York broken down into the Emmental."

"Oahmuh"

"I wanted to sing high and low at the same time and both voices are equally far forward." He was inspired by the Austrian pop-rock band Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung, or EAV for short.

"Rupf e Schnupf"

"Here we had the feeling that we could go country. The lyrics are intended to draw attention to "taking it easy". "Especially when I go to Zurich and see the stressed faces, I think: 'Come up to us and chill out a bit'."

"Schöö Teem"

"'Schöö Teem' is very classic, just like we started in 2014. The music is palatable, the melodies - in keeping with 'Schöö Teem' - go straight to the heart."

"Steep is awesome"

"The song is great because we can really do whatever we want. When we feel like pumping beats and electronics, we just go for it. The song has a forward momentum." Trauffer is very excited to see how this song will be received.

"Ziut geid nid verbi"

"It's a wonderful conclusion to this album. There's a lot of emotion in it. I'm really looking forward to playing this song live."
