She is one of the most important pop musicians of our time, wrote hits such as "Bad Guy" and "Happier Than Ever", won ten Grammys and two Oscars. He created blockbuster film successes such as "Terminator", "Titanic" and "Avatar" and has been awarded three Oscars and countless film prizes. Now Billie Eilish and James Cameron have worked together for the first time.

The popular singer and songwriter and the visionary director speak the same professional language despite their 47-year age difference. Together, the duo have directed the concert film "Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)", which will be screened at blue Cinema on Thursday.

Two directors, one vision

"Having my first real experience with James Cameron and co-directing with him is simply incredible - and at the same time a completely new experience for me," said Eilish (24) in a joint interview with Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) in London. It was immediately obvious that the chemistry between the two was right. The generation gap was obviously no obstacle.

"We're both used to controlling everything ourselves in our own creative worlds - I direct my projects, I developed the show, I make the music," explained Eilish. "And it's the same with him. It was interesting to bring two people together who are used to being in control on their own."

The 71-year-old Cameron does not appear as a father figure, but as a colleague who seems almost modest. It was clear to him that he did not want to push himself to the fore. "I'm not that kind of guy," he emphasized. Eilish had the last word, he said, and she ultimately had to be happy with the result. "I wanted you to be happy with it," he addressed her directly, "that was the most important thing to me."

Concert recordings and backstage interviews

The mutual appreciation between the two is palpable again and again, both in the film and in the interview. "You are a real performer. You are a performer from the bottom of your heart," Cameron enthused. "I always tell people: I made the movie 'Titanic' so I could dive to the Titanic, not because I wanted to make the movie. And you write these incredible songs so you can perform and sing these songs on stage."

"Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)" features footage of a visually spectacular concert and very personal behind-the-scenes moments. Cameron interviews Eilish herself and talks to her about her relationship with the fans.
