Strong complaints from fans at the Prince Charles Cinema in London have prompted the cinema to cancel the premiere of "The Last Screenwriter". Zurich director Peter Luisi criticized the lack of willingness to engage with artificial intelligence (AI).
The premiere of "The Last Screenwriter" by Peter Luisi should have taken place a few days ago at the Prince Charles Cinema, a renowned cinema in London. Those responsible curate the program, so they only show works that they think are good.
The events are advertised on social media. There were already strong reactions and complaints to the first announcement. The cinema therefore decided not to advertise any more, but to show the film.
When around 200 new negative comments were received overnight from fans of the cinema, the Prince Charles Cinema decided to cancel the event.
Peter Luisi told the Keystone-SDA news agency that he regretted this decision, but of course respected it. However, he was convinced that the critics had not dealt with the subject matter. That is what bothers him above all. "They have only heard or read: The script was written by an AI. That was enough. That's all they wanted to know," says the director.
The film was finally shown to the crew on a smaller scale in another cinema.
