Cinema Chinese film "Black Dog" wins Grand Prix in Fribourg

The film "Black Dog" by Chinese director Guan Hu has won the Grand Prix of the 39th Fribourg International Film Festival (Fiff). In the international competition, the festival honored four of twelve feature films and three of the 16 short films.

A new record number of visitors watched the films in the 30 or so cinemas. In addition to the Grand Prize, the Critics' Prize also went to "Black Dog", as the Fiff announced on Saturday evening.

Another Chinese production, "My Friend An Delie", won the Special Jury Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. The Kenyan film "Nawi" was awarded the Audience Award by the festival visitors.

The Youth Jury crowned the Malaysian film "Pavane for an Infant" by Chong Keat Aun. The Iranian short film "Bitter Chocolate" won the prize for the best international short film, following the award for an Iranian short film in the previous year.
