From April 5 to 13, the city of Lucerne will be taken over by fans of the ninth art. The Fumetto festival invites you to a variety of exhibitions with a wide range of contemporary comics.
This year, the Fumetto Festival offers eight main exhibitions, which can be seen in the Kunsthalle Luzern, the Neubad and the Heiliggeistkapelle, among others. In addition, there are around 50 satellite exhibitions at locations such as hotels, bookshops and public places. These will include "first editions by promising talents" and "unusual formats" such as drawn travelogues or a fictional post office.
The festival praises German comic artist and illustrator Anna Haifisch as the "star of current independent comics". The Leipzig-based artist invites you to the 42nd Animal Summit at the Hotel Schweizerhof, in which human-like animals experience their everyday adventures. The illustrator is known for her highly comical, dark and melancholy stories.
From the origins to the future
According to the organizers, the most important comic magazine in the German-speaking world, "Strapazin", has its own exhibition at Fumetto. The magazine celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. In the exhibition at the Kunsthalle, the magazine looks back on 158 issues with a timeline that can be walked, touched and read.
For children and families, there is the Fumettino and the interactive children's exhibition "The Weather at Home" by Swiss illustrator Anna Schmid. In addition, Liza Brazerol's exhibition about a volunteer companion for the blind can be seen in the Heiliggeistkapelle.
The festival starts with an "Opening Night" on 5 April in the Kleintheater Lucerne, where the winners of the international comic competition will be honored. Visitors can also watch artists draw live on billboards on the theme of "Dreams" at Kornmarkt, Mühleplatz and in the music pavilion on Nationalquai.
