The Eurovision Song Contest and the gloomy world situation are among the main themes of the Basel Fasnacht 2025. Meanwhile, the police are not facing any particular danger, as was reported at the media orientation of the Fasnacht committee on Friday.

Committee chairman Robi Schärz described it as one of the great strengths of the Basel Sujet-Fasnacht that it also deals with dark topics. Specifically, he mentioned the new US president and the warlike world situation.

On the other hand, local themes are very popular: first and foremost the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), followed by the 100th birthday of Jean Tinguely.

The parade afternoons are attended by 442 units with almost 11,500 participants. It was emphasized as pleasing that the young guards of the cliques were able to record growth.

For tactical reasons, the police were not forthcoming about security precautions. However, police spokesman Stefan Schmitt said that there was no particular danger at the moment.
