The luxury womenswear designer was one of Ireland's best-known fashion designers and had been a regular at London Fashion Week for more than 40 years.
He looked after Princess Diana, the former wife of Prince Charles, from 1983 until her death in 1997, and under his guidance she became a style icon. He once said of his former employer: "She was very human, she didn't behave like a princess."
Born in the Irish capital Dublin in 1945, Costelloe initially worked for fashion houses in Paris, later moving to Milan for the British chain Marks and Spencer. In an interview with Vogue in 2024, the father of seven said that after retiring from the industry, he would like to drive around France in a car and paint.
