The series "The Deal", co-produced by Swiss television RTS and Arte, has won the Audience Award for Best Series at the French Film Festival in Los Angeles (TAFFF). The award was presented in Paris on Wednesday.

"The Deal" straddles the boundary between documentary and feature film, taking up the negotiations held in French-speaking Switzerland in 2015 that led to the Iranian nuclear agreement. The whole thing is garnished with a love story. The Audience Award at TAFFF is another milestone in the series' remarkable success story.

"After Rome, Cologne, London, Locarno and La Rochelle, the entire team of authors is very happy that the series is continuing its successful journey through the festivals," director Jean-Stéphane Bron told Keystone-SDA on Wednesday before attending the award ceremony organized by the Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique (SACEM) in Paris.

It is a nice recognition for a project that was created in Lausanne and has attracted attention as far away as Los Angeles.

Winning several awards

The director was also "very happy about the recognition from the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF)", where "The Deal" was awarded the Swiss Screenplay Award for series: "The project has already won two awards at the Séries Mania festival in Lille, including a special mention from the jury for the screenplay."

The American French Film Festival (TAFFF), the annual gathering of the French film and television industry in Los Angeles, aims to strengthen cultural exchange between France and the USA. The 29th edition took place from October 28 to November 3.
