AI is set to give games much more freedom in the future. "Uncover the Smoking Gun" is the first of these. A detective game in which you can question witnesses completely freely and have no choices.
In "Uncover the Smoking Gun", players are challenged to solve a murder case by questioning witnesses. Instead of using classic, predetermined dialog options, the game gives players the opportunity to formulate their questions freely. The answers are then generated in real time by the ChatGPT AI system, which enables unprecedented dynamism and interactivity in the course of the game. However, in order to maintain the narrative structure and control the gaming experience in a targeted manner, some answers are predefined.
Relu Games' ambitious plan to build a bridge between the worlds of gaming and deep learning could be a turning point for the entire industry. The developers are convinced that machine learning is not just a supporting technology, but the foundation for the future of interactive entertainment.
Release in June
Despite the not insignificant research and licensing costs of implementing ChatGPT into their game, Relu Games sees this expenditure as an investment in the future. According to the company blog, the cost of using the AI during an internal 52-hour test amounted to just 6.80 euros. These costs are considered worthwhile, especially in view of the long-term customer loyalty that the studio is aiming for.
"Uncover the Smoking Gun" is planned for release in June 2024 and will initially be available for PC. A demo version will be made available ahead of the official release to give potential players a first look and spark interest in this new type of gameplay.
The integration of advanced AI into video games could therefore not only transform the gaming experience itself, but also change the way games are developed in the long term.
