French actor Tchéky Karyo has died at the age of 72. As his agent Elisabeth Tanner confirmed to the German Press Agency, the actor died on Friday as a result of cancer.

Karyo was known for his role in the 1990 action thriller "Nikita" by Luc Besson. He became internationally known as a villain in the James Bond film "GoldenEye" (1995) and as a gangster in "Bad Boys" (1995) with Will Smith.
Born in Turkey and raised in Paris, Karyo began acting in the theater before making a name for himself in French cinema in the 1980s. In his decades-long career, Karyo has appeared in around 80 films and several series.
