The special coin will bear a portrait of Lennon and the words "Imagine", according to the British news agency PA.
The mint has already honored several musicians with special coins, including David Bowie, Elton John and Lennon's former band colleague Paul McCartney. However, the coins come at a price - the special Lennon coin costs at least 18.50 pounds (around 21 francs).
The Beatles ("Let It Be", "Come Together") were one of the most successful bands in music history. They split up in 1970. Lennon was shot dead in New York in 1980. One of his best-known songs is "Imagine".
