It was great, he told the German news agency DPA in Paris that he had the most intimate dialog with the cathedral while playing, which he enjoyed very much.
The classical concert, which will include performances by French-Swiss tenor Benjamin Bernheim and star cellists Yo-Yo Ma and Gautier Capuçon, was recorded a few days ago and will be shown as part of the opening ceremony on Saturday evening.
Piano placed in different locations
Exploring the acoustics was both a challenge and a pleasure for the 42-year-old pianist. The piano was placed in various locations in the cathedral to find the best acoustics: "It was simply majestic." It was the Chinese star's first performance in Notre-Dame.
Lang Lang is delighted with the restored cathedral: "The colors are much brighter now because everything has been renovated. The whole appearance is completely different from before." The colorful stained glass windows also left a lasting impression: he was there during the day and in the evening and saw them: "It really was a dream."
