The then 87-year-old Liv Ullmann will be honored for her achievements as an actress, director and screenwriter, the Academy, which represents 5400 members, announced. "Liv Ullmann has helped shape our understanding of European film," said the honoree.
Ullmann became known above all for her roles in the films of Swedish directorial genius Ingmar Bergman, such as "Persona", "Scenes from a Marriage" and "Autumn Sonata".
From the 1990s, however, Ullmann also became active as a director herself and released her debut "Sofie" in 1992. One of the most successful productions with Ullmann in the director's chair is "Fräulein Julie" (2014) with Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain.
