He has a very special relationship with Gstaad, said Daniel Hope at a media conference in Zurich on Monday. It was the place where his musical career began - when he met Yehudi Menuhin as a child, who had employed Hope's mother as his secretary.

For the first festival under his direction, he is now presenting a great line-up of stars. The festival begins on July 16 in the church in Saanen. Under the motto "Living Legends", 90-year-old Zubin Metha will conduct the Zurich Chamber Orchestra as Orchestra in Residence - with violinist Pinchas Zukermann as soloist.

Concert with Stradivari and Guarneri violins

This will be followed by many other big names, including Hope himself: The American baritone Thomas Hampson will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, András Schiff will perform a recital, while David Garrett will appear with an ensemble that will play exclusively on Stradivari and Guarneri violins.

Hope also mentioned well-known Swiss names, such as soprano Regula Mühlemann and pianist Oliver Schnyder. Hope's new program is "Ladies First" - a title that speaks for itself - while the motto "Next Generation" continues to place great emphasis on performance opportunities for young talent.

Hope also presented a new venue for concert performances in the form of the chalet belonging to the family of the famous painter Balthus. The Menuhin Festival in Gstaad will take place from July 16 to September 5, 2026.
