- For a long time, the Norwegian royal palace remained silent about Mette-Marit's health situation.
- Now there is an update: her situation has deteriorated drastically.
- Preparations are being made for a possible lung transplant.
The state of health of the Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit (52) has deteriorated again. A spokeswoman for the Norwegian court confirmed this to the news agency DPA on request.
She is therefore unlikely to be present when the Belgian royal couple pay a state visit to Norway next week.
The Crown Princess suffers from a rare and severe chronic lung disease. The court had already announced in December that Mette-Marit was getting worse, which is why she will need new lungs in the near future.
Pulmonary fibrosis: Mette-Marit finds it harder to breathe
The wife of Norway's Crown Prince Haakon made her condition, a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis, public in 2018. The disease causes scars to form in the lung tissue, which can cause shortness of breath, among other things.
According to research by Norwegian television, Mette-Marit has only been absent from three state visits during her time as Crown Princess since 2001. In addition to her lung disease, the scandal surrounding her friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the rape trial against her eldest son Marius Borg Høiby are currently weighing heavily on the crown princess.
