Prince Harry has received an award at a sports awards ceremony. He received the "Pat Tillman Award for Service" at the ESPYS awards ceremony on July 11 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards are presented by the US sports channel ESPN.

The royal award winner received a standing ovation from his wife, Duchess Meghan, among others. The trophy was presented by three military veterans who were wounded in action. Harry himself served in the British military for ten years and was deployed twice in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot.

Would anyone else have been more deserving of the award?

The "Pat Tillman Award for Service" is awarded to people who serve their fellow human beings. It is named after the late military man Pat Tillman.

The mother of the former Army Ranger had criticized ESPN for presenting Harry with the award. Mary Tillman argued that there are people in the military veteran community who would be more appropriate as a recipient of the award.

Harry mentioned Mary Tillman in his acceptance speech for the award. "Her commitment to Pat's legacy is deeply personal and something I respect," Harry said. "The bond between a mother and a son is eternal and transcends even the greatest of losses."
