Mummenschanz has written Swiss theater history, according to a press release issued by the St. Gallen Cultural Foundation on Monday. For 54 years, the masked theater has thrilled audiences on international stages with poetic stories and a language of movement that goes beyond classical pantomime.
Mummenschanz was founded in 1972 by Andres Bossard, Bernie Schürch and Floriana Frassetto. Invitations to renowned festivals soon followed. The theater group is currently touring with a partially new cast for its 50th anniversary program.
The Grand Culture Prize of the St. Gallen Cultural Foundation is usually awarded every four years. It has been awarded to Roman Signer, Pipilotti Rist, Milo Rau, Gardi Hutter and the Knie family.
