In his new album "Reset", the Swiss rapper shows his very personal side. The 14 tracks, mostly carried by soft beats, describe his way of stepping out of an existence characterized by vulnerability, defensiveness and distance.

His last album "Marathon" sounded like a political plea against racism and injustice in the world. In his new album "Reset", which will be released on Friday (today), the musician with Ivorian-Swiss roots focuses on his personal experiences.

He also includes voices from Biel, Bern, Lucerne, Aachen and Kyoto as features, namely from his sister Coralie Niang and from his rapper colleagues Veli, Dawill, Y-Mondo and Daichi Yamamoto.

The lyrics correspond one hundred percent to his personal experiences and thoughts, Nativ confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency. "Sometimes I exaggerate a little to heighten the emotion and drama in certain lines, but in the end every track reflects the reality I've experienced."

Hurts, disappointments and defenses

This reality seems to be characterized by injuries, disappointments and defensiveness. "Ich han e Wuet uff d Wält ka", raps Nativ on the album's title track, for example.

Yes, that corresponds to his reality, says Nativ. "I've been and felt hurt a lot, and at the same time I've certainly been hurt a lot. I struggled with defensiveness, distance and negative thoughts."

However, the album with the telling title "Reset" is also a way for him to come to terms with this negative phase. "It's about self-forgiveness and finding peace - with myself and with others."

"Reset" also reveals a world that is characterized by a confluence of different cultures. On the one hand, through the influx of other artists - "I want to merge borders," says Nativ. On the other hand, however, through his almost Babylonian mixture of languages, which leads Nativ from English into Bernese German and/or French Patois without a break.

"Reset" by Nativ has been released on the foyi.fragments label. The record launch will take place on November 14 at Turnhalle Bern.
