This year's 48th edition of Paléo will feature 120 artists from around thirty countries. US stoner rockers Queens of the Stone Age, US hip-hopper Macklemore - and Nemo - are expected to perform at Switzerland's largest open-air music festival.
Even this brief glimpse of the line-up shows: The 48th Paléo aims to celebrate "music in all its diversity", as the organizers wrote on Tuesday. They relate this statement to the geography, the style, but also to different generations.
The hard rock faction under the motto "Punk is not dead" is represented beyond Queens of the Stone Age with the Sex Pistols in a formation with Frank Carter. The English punkers Lambrini Girls, Skunk Anansie with their feminist and bald front woman Deborah Anne Dyer, Texas as representatives of blues rock and the new wave Simple Minds from Glasgow are also expected.
Macklemore opens the festival
Hip-hop will be represented by Macklemore, who will also be opening the upcoming Paléo with his show, and Will Smith from Hollywood. Ninho&Niska, SDM and Belgian rapper Hamza will be representing French-language rap. French rapper and songwriter Rilès, Shatta queen Bamby and Moonchild Sanelly have also been invited as representatives of ghetto funk.
In addition to Nemo, Soprano, Clara Luciani and Zaho de Sagazan will perform in the pop segment. Julien Doré also stands for quirky glamor, Philippe Katerine for unconcealed mischief and the Frenchman Ben Mazué for sensitive slam, according to the press release.
On the Belleville stage, which is dedicated to electronic niches, three concerts will be performed by women: Charlie Tee with drum'n'bass, Anetha with techno and Rosa Pistola with reggaeton. Electro will also be represented by David Guetta, the French touch duo Justice, Lost Frequencies and Ascendant Vierge.
The 48th edition of Paléo runs from July 22 to 27. More than 250 concerts and shows are planned on eight stages. Around a quarter of a million visitors are expected to attend.
