The Oskar Reinhart Collection "Am Römerholz" in Winterthur reopened on Saturday after several months of closure. This means that important masterpieces, from Cézanne to van Gogh, can once again be seen in the former estate of the art collector Reinhart.
The "Am Römerholz" building, the former home of art collector and patron Oskar Reinhart, was renovated during the closure - partly in order to modernize the conservation conditions. From Saturday, selected works by Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Francisco de Goya and Paul Cézanne, among others, will be on display in the newly designed rooms.
The head of the Federal Office of Culture, Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, was also present at the opening ceremony - the Oskar Reinhart Collection "Am Römerholz" has belonged to the Swiss Confederation since 1958. Together with the Mayor of Winterthur, Michael Künzle, Baume-Schneider reopened the collection at the ceremony.
From Saturday, access for people with disabilities will be better than before. During the closure, renovations were carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the "Kultur inklusiv" label, according to a statement from the Oskar Reinhart Collection "Am Römerholz". The new features also include a new offer in the museum café. Top Winterthur chef Alex Binding is the new tenant. The restaurant will operate as a museum café during the day and offer fine dining in the evening.
The former private collection of Oskar Reinhart, who was born in 1885 and died in 1965, comprises around 200 works from the Renaissance to the beginning of the modern era. A large proportion are works from the French Impressionist period. It is one of the world's most important former private collections.
