Pierce Brosnan had his last outing as James Bond over 20 years ago. The 71-year-old is delighted that fans on the Internet are now calling for his return as 007. But he rules out a comeback.

"That's another man's job now," the former 007 actor ("GoldenEye", "The World Is Not Enough") told the German news agency DPA in London. "I wish everyone only the best."

Gangster boss instead of secret agent

Brosnan, who will soon be seen as gangster boss Conrad Harrigan in Guy Ritchie's TV series "Mobland" on the streaming service Paramount+, played the famous secret agent in four films from 1995 to 2002. Following the departure of Brosnan's successor Daniel Craig, a new Bond actor is being sought.

Recently, many fans on the Internet have been calling for Brosnan to return in the role of an aged James Bond - although this is considered highly unlikely. Nevertheless, the 71-year-old was flattered by the fans' love. "I accept this love with gratitude," said Brosnan. "Who knows what will happen next."

New start for the James Bond series

In February, the longtime producers of the James Bond series, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, announced that they were handing over creative control to Amazon MGM Studios. For the next film, which marks a new start, the experienced producer duo Amy Pascal and David Heyman have been hired. Pascal is known for her work on the "Spider-Man" films. Heyman was the producer of the Harry Potter series.
