Tom D. was doubly successful with his track "pour toi", according to the press release. In addition to the young talent prize worth 5,000 francs, the rapper from Chailly VD also won the "Fondation Suisa Award" in the "Lyrics and Beats" category.
This prize, with prize money of CHF 3,000 each, is awarded to the most outstanding songs in five categories, the organizers announced. The following also received awards: Elina from Carouge GE in the "Electronic" category for "Wet Dreams Only". Laurel Bloom in the pop category for "Deniable". Eckhart from Vevey VD in the "Rock" category for "Blasted Mirrors". The award in the "Out of Genre" category went to Polarbaeren from Zurich for "gletschertrack". M4Music is regarded as an important festival for up-and-coming artists.
At this year's edition of the two-day music festival, 40 acts took to the stage in and around Zurich's Schiffbau, according to a press release. "The Swiss music scene has shown that it is lively, diverse and innovative", Philipp Schnyder, co-founder and festival director, was quoted as saying.
Threats lead to cancellation
This year's edition of the festival hit the headlines in the run-up to the event. It canceled the performance of singer Bernarda Brunovic in Zurich. According to the organizers, there were threats because of her conservative Christian background. The blind singer Bernarda Brunovic performed at the "March for Life" in Zurich-Oerlikon in 2022, an event organized by anti-abortion activists.
The festival confirmed that this was the reason for the threats. The events would be dealt with after the festival, which was "an urgent need for the entire team", according to the organizers.
