The "House of Switzerland Milano" is opening its doors again as part of Milan Design Week (08.-13.04.). Under the exhibition motto "Collaboration", designers will show how collaboration enables innovation and change.
25 projects by up-and-coming talents, institutions, brands and universities will be presented at the third edition of the "House of Switzerland Milano", as Pro Helvetia announced on Wednesday. At the Milano Design Week furniture fair, they will demonstrate what can be created through cross-border collaboration and cultural exchange in various design disciplines.
These include Swiss designers Alix Arto and Emma Cassella: together with Chinese designer Yihan Zhang, they have combined both local and international felting techniques. Their project "Herding Wool" explores the anthropological significance of wool, according to the press release. The work of the three designers also includes a felt database, which aims to draw attention to underestimated types of wool.
Design familiar to the general public can also be seen in a new form: Designer Laura Lauber reinterprets the popular USM shelves, for example into a lamp.
Paraplegic Foundation with installation
The fact that collaborations in design are of a very different nature is demonstrated by the fact that the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation is also part of the "House of Switzerland Milano". The focus here is on the interplay between medicine, technology and education, which promotes the autonomy of people with disabilities. This can be seen in an installation entitled "Rings of Collaboration".
Following the "Urgent Legacy" exhibition in 2023 and "Joy" last year, the upcoming show on the theme of "Collaboration" is the third and final exhibition in the format of the current "House of Switzerland Milano". This is a collaboration between Pro Helvetia and Presence Switzerland.
At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, the two organizations summed it up as follows: "It offered exhibitors a springboard and increased awareness of the creative and collaborative side of Switzerland". Both institutions are currently considering how they would like to continue working together in the future.
