At 249 million Swiss francs, the Swiss recorded music market achieved seven percent more sales in 2024 than in the previous year. As the industry association of Swiss music labels Ifpi announced on Thursday, music streaming accounts for over 90 percent of this market share.

This corresponds to 226 million Swiss francs achieved through streaming alone. According to the press release, YoutTube, Apple Music and Spotify are the main drivers of this development. In contrast, sales achieved with CDs have, unsurprisingly, continued to fall: Compared to the previous year, it is another 25 percent less that was achieved with them. This corresponds to 9.7 million Swiss francs - the lowest figure since the launch of the CD at the beginning of the 1980s, according to Ifpi.

This is the ninth year in a row that the Swiss music market has continued to grow. However, sales on the Swiss recorded music market are still below the top level of 2000, when they reached CHF 372 million.

According to the Ifpi press release, dialect acts were the most streamed by Swiss music creators in 2024: In first place is Stubete Gäng. In addition to the group, which mixes folk music with pop, Schwizergoofe, Patent Ochsner, Gölä and Hecht were streamed the most.

In contrast to this list, the most-streamed international acts in Switzerland in 2024 were led by women: Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. Alongside them, Eminem, The Weeknd and David Guetta are among the most-streamed non-Swiss music creators.

The album "Loch dür Zyt" by Bernese cult band Züri West was also the most successful Swiss sound carrier last year after 2023. Internationally, Billie Eilish's "Hit Me Hard And Soft" was the most successful album of the year. The song "Beatiful Things", which helped US singer-songwriter and pop musician Benson Boone make his breakthrough, was the most successful single of 2024.
