There are sights that travelers simply have to see. But when they are not that impressive in reality, the disappointment is huge. A ranking shows the biggest tourist traps.
No time? blue News summarizes for you
- Many sights around the world turn out to be overrated, overcrowded and not that impressive in reality.
- The language learning platform Preply has compiled a ranking that lists the most disappointing attractions.
- In first place is the colorful and noisy Times Square in New York.
- It is followed by Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin and the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Who hasn't been there? On vacation, you visit a sight you've wanted to see for a long time and have been eagerly awaiting for a while. When you finally stand in front of it, the attraction is not as great as you thought and the disappointment is all the greater.
The list of must-see attractions around the world is endless. However, many of these attractions that are advertised as must-sees do not deliver what they promise in reality and leave a stale aftertaste.
That's why Preply has made it its mission to warn travelers. In a ranking, the language learning platform shows which sights turn out to be tourist traps. To do this, it analyzed and compared the ratings of over 81 well-known and popular attractions around the world and explicitly searched for the words "overrated", "disappointing" and "tourist trap" to expose the biggest detractors.
Preply contrasted this with the sights with the lowest stress factor. One place in Switzerland took the top spot.

In second place is Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. According to many tourists, it is not only "disappointing" but also "small". Below is an overview of the 20 most disappointing sights worldwide.

Lake Cauma is not a disappointment
To spread some good news, the language learning platform has also selected the least disappointing sights. The winner in this ranking is Lake Cauma in Graubünden.
The water there is actually as clear as in the photos - the lake is idyllic. Unfortunately, Lake Cauma has been overrun by day tourists for a while now. You now have to pay an entrance fee. An attempt to counteract mass tourism.
