US rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs, who has been charged with sex trafficking and other serious crimes, has denied the latest two charges. The 55-year-old pleaded not guilty at a hearing before the competent federal court in New York on Monday.
The trial is expected to begin in May and, if convicted, the new charges could mean a longer prison sentence for Combs. US investigators added two further charges to the indictment at the beginning of April. These relate to a further case of sex trafficking and a further case in which a woman was allegedly transported in a vehicle for the purpose of prostitution. The new documents state that Combs "abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him over two decades to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his conduct".
Prosecutors accuse the 55-year-old of sexually abusing several women and men and using threats and violence to coerce them into attending drug and sex parties. He is also alleged to have used the employees and resources of his business empire to create a criminal enterprise that committed crimes such as sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice. Combs denies all allegations.
Ex-girlfriend sued Combs in 2023
The first allegations against Combs arose after his ex-girlfriend, singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, sued the musician in 2023 for years of abuse and rape. The two agreed on a settlement shortly afterwards. Since then, numerous other women and men have filed lawsuits against the rapper for serious allegations of abuse, including rape.
Combs, known under the stage names Puff Daddy, P. Diddy and Diddy, rose to become one of the most successful hip-hop musicians in the world in the 1990s. The three-time Grammy award winner is also a successful music producer and businessman. His record company Bad Boy Records produced stars such as Mary J. Blige and Notorious B.I.G.
