The organizers of the Wacken Open Air in northern Germany commemorated the late rock icon Ozzy Osbourne with a drone show. On Saturday night, the projection "Ozzy we love you" could be seen above the main stages after the last concert.

This was accompanied by the Osbourne song "Mama, I'm Coming Home" and then the Black Sabbath number "Paranoid". Pictures of Osbourne were also shown on the giant screens.

The legendary British singer and reality TV star died on July 22 at the age of 76. As co-founder of the band Black Sabbath, he was considered one of the first representatives of the heavy metal genre - and one of the most dazzling.

Black Sabbath was founded in Birmingham in the 1960s. Just a few weeks ago, Osbourne, who was suffering from Parkinson's disease, gave a highly acclaimed farewell concert in his home town.

Guns N' Roses set a record

The US band Guns N' Roses set a record with their performance at the Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) on Thursday evening. "Guns N' Roses played the longest show in the history of the Wacken Open Air," said a festival spokesman. The show started at around 8.35 p.m. and the musicians only left the stage again shortly before midnight.

The metal scene has been meeting regularly in the North German lowlands since 1990. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and, of course, heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne have all performed on stage there.

Ozzy tribute like at Vienna show

As at their Vienna show a few days ago, Guns N' Roses paid tribute to the Black Sabbath singer, who died on July 22 at the age of 76. "We're all here because of you," said singer Axl Rose. As a tribute to Osbourne and his family, Guns N' Roses played the songs "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and "Never Say Die!" by Black Sabbath, as they had done in the Ernst Happel Stadium.

Guns N' Roses were the headliners of the festival in Wacken in northern Germany. For the US rock musicians, the gig marked the end of their European and Middle East tour. The French band Gojira and US rockers Papa Roach are also expected in Wacken until Saturday night. The Wacken Open Air is considered one of the biggest heavy metal festivals in the world.
