As Christie's announced on Thursday, the auction will take place online from April 16 to 30. The wine collection consists of 2474 bottles. Christie's estimates its value at one million pounds (a good 1.1 million Swiss francs).

Bucherer mainly collected Bordeaux wines. The collection contains over 1600 bottles from the 1970 to 2005 vintages from this wine region. There are also around 500 Burgundy wines from 1995 to 2003 and just over 300 bottles of Spanish wine.

Wine cellars in Lucerne and Marbella

Bucherer stored his wines in his own wine cellars in Lucerne and Marbella. Christie's describes him as a passionate wine collector who always brought two bottles of wine from his collection to his favorite restaurant in Lucerne.

Born in 1936, Jörg G. Bucherer was the third generation of his family to run the jewelry shop of the same name for 46 years from 1977. Under his management, the company grew abroad and had over one hundred branches.

Little is known about the bijoutier's life. He had no descendants. He therefore sold the company to the luxury watch manufacturer Rolex in August 2023. He died a few months later.

Bucherer's fortune, including the proceeds from the sale of wine, went to a foundation. This was entered in the commercial register in January 2025 and is due to start operating in 2026. It is intended to promote artistic activities, social institutions, quality tourism and the natural sciences.
