Ahead of the 32nd Federal Yodelling Festival in Basel, OC President Carlo Conti warns of increasing alienation between the city and the countryside. The festival at the end of June should contribute to more mutual tolerance, as he says in an interview with Keystone-SDA.

Conti is concerned that urban and rural lifestyles are drifting apart in Switzerland and that people are listening less to each other and showing less tolerance and acceptance. He hopes that the Yodelling Festival will be able to encourage encounters between different ways of life and work towards a sense of togetherness, as he says.
The Swiss Yodelling Festival, as it was called at the time, was first held in Basel in 1924 - since then, it has not been held in the city on the Rhine. The 31st edition was due to return to Basel in 2020, but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Around 12,000 active participants and a total of around 200,000 visitors are expected this year. Around 5 million francs have been budgeted for the festival.
