Yodelling, alphorn blowing and flag waving: From June 26 to 28, 2026, the city on the bend of the Rhine will be transformed into a yodelling village. After the Eurovision Song Contest and the Women's Euro, the next major event will take place in Basel in a year's time. The Federal Yodelling Festival was held in the city on the Rhine back in 1924.
The planning work is on track, said OC President and former Basel government minister Carlo Conti to the media on Thursday. Not everything is yet settled - the financing is not yet fully secured. However, he is confident.
The organizing committee anticipates a budget of five million francs for the event in Basel and added value for Basel of 15 to 20 million francs.
Mainly in the old town
The events of the 32nd edition will mainly take place in Basel's old town - including in churches, concert halls and two school courtyards. The festival area stretches from Petersplatz to Marktplatz.
They are very much looking forward to Basel, the setting is wonderful, said Karin Niederberger-Schwitter, President of the Swiss Yodelling Association. "It is more important than ever that we come from the countryside to the city."
Conti also emphasized this: The Federal Yodelling Festival in Basel offers the opportunity for the urban and rural populations of Switzerland to celebrate together, to understand and accept each other.
The Federal Yodelling Festival should have been held in Basel in 2020, but was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic and then canceled again. The last edition was held in Zug in 2023.
