"With a personal tonal language, she has created a work that deeply moved the jury with its emotional power," it said in the citation. Second place went to Chinese composer Erqing Wang with "The Gaze of Nmemosyne". Ramón Humet from Barcelona followed in third place with his composition "Bird in Space".

The award ceremony took place on Sunday in the Paul Sacher Hall of the Don Bosco Concert Church in Basel, as detailed in the communiqué. In addition to the jury prize, Qianchen Lu's composition also won the audience prize, which was awarded for the first time and is endowed with 5,000 francs.

The three orchestras Sinfonierorchester Basel, Basel Sinfonietta and Kammerorchester Basel performed the works of the twelve nominated finalists in this competition.

The event aims to bring "the most exciting composers of the 21st century" to Basel in the spirit of Basel conductor and patron Paul Sacher, who died in 1999, according to the press release. The next Basel Composition Competition will take place in February 2027.
