Zara Larsson sensationally conquers number one in the German singles charts with her global hit "Lush Life" eleven years after its release. And knocks superstar Taylor Swift off her throne.

The sudden number one hit success was triggered by viral hype and social media trends surrounding the 2016 nostalgia and a video that was shared millions of times. In it, a fan performs a choreography to the song on stage with the singer in Amsterdam during Larsson's current "Midnight Sun Tour".

Larsson's long-running hit "Lush Life" had a long wait behind it before it conquered the top spot for the first time, explain the chart analysts at GfK Entertainment: "Originally entered in autumn 2015, spent many weeks in the top 10, then didn't chart for nine years, then became popular again thanks to a Tiktok video, the catchy tune is now ahead of Taylor Swift's "The Fate Of Ophelia" and Raye's "Where Is My Husband!"." It is Larsson's second number one hit after "This One's For You", which was created together with David Guetta.

Social media video as a music streaming driver

Amsterdam's emotional performance developed into a global streaming driver. It clearly inspired both long-standing fans and a new generation of listeners.

The music business has become unpredictable these days. With its leap to the top of the charts, "Lush Life", which was released in 2015 and climbed to number four in December (after all), underlines its status as a pop classic.

The song obviously caters to a current desire for pop exuberance, it's about enjoying the moment, sunshine on your face and having no obligations.

Zara Larsson also performed at the Grammy Awards around a month ago - with an acoustic version of her song "Midnight Sun". She was nominated for Best Dance/Pop Song. However, the "Best Dance Pop Recording" prize went to Lady Gaga ("Abracadabra").
