Stephan Eicher kicks off this year's Zermatt Unplugged. The five-day festival starts on Tuesday evening (today). A total of 120 performances are on the program. 66 artists will perform on 17 stages.
Stephan Eicher will be performing a carte blanche: He performs pop, classical music and alpine traditions. Eicher performs with guests such as the Swiss Orchestra under the direction of Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer, pianist Reyn Ouwehand, soprano Cinzia Zanovello and accordionist Mario Batkovic. The chansonnier will also be bringing author Martin Suter on stage.
On Wednesday, UB40 will take to the big stage in Zermatt. The British reggae band, which has been around since 1978, has since sold almost 70 million albums with worldwide hits such as "Kingston Town", "Red Red Wine" and "I Got You Babe".
With Amy Macdonald, the top star is also coming from the Anglo-Saxon region on Thursday. Her musical style is described as indie rock and pop. She has celebrated great success with songs such as "This Is the Life" and "Mr Rock & Roll".
Mika's show has been announced for Friday evening at the foot of the Matterhorn. "Few have mastered the art of conquering such different worlds", the organizers enthuse in their press release. The author of "Grace Kelly" and "Take It Easy" knows how to sublimate his melodies in an intimate setting. The festival ends on Saturday with a performance by German singer, rapper, composer and producer Clueso.
Zermatt Unplugged is first and foremost a festival dedicated to acoustic concerts and singer-songwriter music. But at night, danceable beats and vibrant sounds are provided by DJs. The festival has been running since 2007 and attracted a total of 30,000 festival-goers last year.
